hello fellow condors! rick miller here, i crewed a slick named Gunky! no seems to know how she got her name but was told i would die if i changed the name...
wanted to say hello to everyone and to all the other slick crewchiefs and doorgunners...hello Micheal Horsch....

anyone who went to Khe Sahn remember the water falls we use to take a bath in?

remember the mud slide into the pool of water at the falls?

i remember the sniper who took shots at me and the others at the falls one day and the bullets zipping by my head under water.

good thing i could swim under water really good, heh....

i came into country jan 1,1970 according to my orders i found and left vietnam on sept 12, 1971. was crewchief on gunky from the middle of march 1970 until sept 71 when my doorgunner took over as crewchief.

flew for awhile as doorgunner for SP/5 Robert Blackwell until gunky came along.

Chief Warrant Glenn Dooley hello again, sorry about leaving you that day in the PZ for a short short.....

I will be at the 2010 Condor Reunion this year....looking forward to seeing all the condors again.

In case some of you haven't contacted Emil or the President, not bammy either.....
it is important that all who can attend show up and that includes Doug Brinker !!!!

I would like to see as many there as none of us as Mick would sing, Time is on our side...it's not anymore guys, I'm next to the youngest now and everyone above me, well it would be nice to see everyone again.

San Antonio is very nice as is the hotel and price is good also, so I hope to see everyone again soon.

I\'d really like to get in touch with Tony Japuntich. I served with him in his squad in the 1st cav and then again in C Troup. I was a SGT and was the morning controller in the TOC

I also would like to bet in touch with Pappy. I had the pleasure to fly with him as an observer and I still laugh at how he tried to introduce me to RALPH

God Bless you all and I think of you often

William Fritz, I too would be interested in buying a few patches with the patince my ass on them. Maybe Roland Brophy, the orginator of the logo could whip up a few and make them available to all here on the web site!! It would generate a few bucks for him. At least it would be a little compensation for the work he put into the patch to begin with.. Just a thought

The printed logo refering to "patince my ass, I want to kill somthing", was on all of the C Trp. 2/17 patches I saw while in country 71-72. I was a little surprized the reproductions didn't have it on them. Getting older not bolder?
I'd buy some with the original logo that I remember.

I arrived at Phu Bai in September 1970. A group of us lined up in formation facing the First Sargent. He asked me several questions about different automatic weapons, I answered the questions. He asked me, \"would you like to drive my jeep\". I replied, \"No thanks\". That is how I became an Aero Scout. I reported to the flight line and met someone there and said that,\" the 1st Sargent said to report here. I reserved an air conditioned room with a view.\" I spent the night on the front porch and a few more after that. I did have a nice view. I could not have picked a better group of guys to serve with in Vietnam. I think about you everyday.

Someone in the front office did not like me, a line was drawn through my \"V\" with Air Medal. Anyone that was in Laos would not have done such a thing, that leaves you know who.

I never had been in a helicopter before I arrived with the 2/17th. On my second flight one of the pilots asked me if I would like to land the bird. I did a 360. I think I was a little hard on the pedals.

Served with Earl Wilson, Pat Bunting, Ron Maximoff - he flew Capt. Latimer back to the runway on that fateful day. Flew with Lt. Simpson the morning of his last day. Don Wilson was with Lt. Smpson in his last monments.

God Bless

Re: \"Patience, my Ass.....\"

Haven\'t visited here in a couple years, but I noticed the recent question regarding the where the \'Patients\' slogan was printed.

I can confirm that it was a calling card that was given to everybody while we were still at Sally. In fact I think I have a few in a shoe box, along with some original patches, MPC and other odds and ends from our tour.

Bill, I distinctly remember the slogan but it was just a slogan. I don't recall it making its way to the patch. The problem is, however, I remember seeing it in writing, either on an aircraft or posted somewhere in the Troop area. For your info, here's a link to a magazine story that actually refers to it -- http://www.vanityfair.com/magazine/archive/1999/12/burrows199912?currentPage=2 Here's a paragraph from the story: The next day, A.P. reporter Michael Putzel flew out to Khe Sanh and tracked down Newman, who volunteered to return to the crash site for a quick flyby. Something of a daredevil, Newman commanded Charlie Troop, Second Squadron, 17th Air Cavalry, a swashbuckling outfit whose unit insignia was a menacing condor. Their slogan: “Patience, my ass. I want to kill something.” It was a risky foray, but Newman flew in at a discreet altitude, accompanied by two Cobra gunships for cover. Putzel, using a 200-mm. telephoto lens, took several quick frames of the fire-singed hillside.

like Mike Hayes, I was on the Flying Tiger flight in Mar 69.
I was part of the Commo unit, although my background was in art. I designed the Condor logo, as well as the the one for the 504th Maint., as well as the EM club, which was under constructin when I left country in70. I heard it was destroyed, so if anyone has pictures, I would love to see them. I noticed pix of Jim Eastman on his bike. He probably doesn't remember, but we were in the same hooch for most of the time I was in country.
was introduced to the web site by my nephew, who saw the patch and remembered that I had given one to him when he was a kid. It has been a long time since I was at LZ Sally, but I can't believe it is almost 40 years ago.

Thanks to Lee, and anyone else involved, here it is!! If it wasn't for seeing Milt Beebe's name and comments, I probably wouldnt' have inquired about joining.. Would like to hear from anyone that remembers our tour of "the vacation capital of the world, sunny South Nam"!!

I served with C/2/17 from June \'69 through May \'70. Call sign became 56-kilo, grunt radio operator for the rifle platoon leader. Recall doing a lot of waiting for insertions, on the airstrip at KheSan, various abandoned firebases, Bastogne, etc., leading into the Ashau. Recall the quiet times at Sally as well as rpg\'s falling and dashes to the bunkers. And who can forget the long nights on guard? After 9 months became personnel NCO for the troop, replaced Hines. Had some trouble adjusting to the \"quiet\" and sometimes volunteered for patrols.

I joined Charlie Troop at Robert Gray Army Airfield, Ft Hood, Texas, mid 1968. Charlie Troop was just forming and the only other folks there at the time (that I remember) were Benny Landes, Rosco Tilly and a few younger troop. We trained at Ft Hood for six months then departed for Viet Nam. We arrive at LZ Sally as a unit in March 1969. I spent my entire tour with the Scout Platoon as an Aerial Observer from March 1969 until March 1970. I stayed in the Army and retired at Ft Benning Georgia, September 1984. I was fortunate enough to get a Civil Service job just after I retired and currently work as manager of an Aviation Component Repair program at Hunter Army Airfield, Savannah Georgia.

I wish I could make the letters bigger so that I wouldn't have to use my "cheaters" to see. I started with C/7/17 aircav down in Pleiku, 10June68 and was infused with C/2/17 in January69. My brother (Spc4 Greg Schuler) visited occasionally from Dong Tam (down in the delta) with the Vultures. I was a Cobra pilot when I arrived in country. When I came up to Eagle country, I was designated as a guns section leader (White 21) until we started using our call signs.

I was with hq baty /83 field arty. Michael Light was my boss. My first day with the blues was spent in a bomb crater we had repelled into. The third choper was shot down. then another choper tried to drop alz kit but was receiving heavy fire and droped the kit away from the crater. The door gunner got shot up really bad or either he was killed. I remenber thinking he was going to shoot me but He didn\'t. When the the choper was shoot down the roror blades were flying, I remenber looking at Larry Banton and he look at me. We were both scared as hell. I remenber my legs shaking uncontroubly and I was ashamed. I looked around and everyones legs were shaking. I laughed to myself.
